Brisbane

Rockinghorse Records

To say Rockinghorse is an ‘institution’ is almost an understatement! Basically, you’re looking at Brisbane’s largest and longest running independent record store. I went there when I was a kid and now my kids go there too. In these days of inSanity shops and stockmarket listed music retailers, Rockinghorse is like a prized archaeological find, re-animated in a sterile world. They are vinyl specialists and if the awesome staff can’t answer your question, I’ll eat my bicycle helmet!
To keep with things in real-time, including newly landed vinyl releases and special issues, like their Facebook page here.

Archives Fine Books

Referred to by one patron as like Dr Who’s Tardis – ‘tiny on the outside, huge wonderland once you’re in the door’- Archives Fine Books is the largest second-hand bookstore in Queensland. Imagine the sort of bookshop that you might just as easily find Harry Potter researching for his studies in the magical arts, as a city professional seeking out a tome on urban design – slipping past each other while they navigate the seemingly endless aisles of crammed-to-the-rafters shelves imbibing the palpable waft of wordsmithery that permeates the entire store. Wonderland indeed.
